Prof. A. K. M. Akther Hossain obtained B.Sc. (Honours) in 1988 (held in 1991) and M. Sc. in 1989 (held in 1994) in Physics from the Department of Physics, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He secured First Position in First Class in M. Sc. He started his career as a Lecturer in Physics at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Bangladesh in April 1994. He was appointed Lecturer in the Department of Physics, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh in June 1994. In 1995, he was awarded Association of Commonwealth Universities Scholarship for pursuing PhD. He obtained PhD & DIC from Imperial College of Science Technology & Medicine, the University of London, UK in 1998 in the field of Colossal Magnetoresistance (CMR). He was appointed Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor in 1999, 2002, and 2008, respectively. He was awarded Japan Society of Promotion of Sciences fellowship tenable at Osaka University, Japan for Postdoctoral research during 2002-2004. His research interest is in CMR, superconductors, nanostructured ferrites, ferroelectrics, multiferroics, Dilute Magnetic Semiconductors, and nanocrystalline alloys. He supervised 11 Ph.D., 43 M. Phil. and 20 M. Sc. students. He has published 114 full length articles in various reputed International Journals.
