Dr. Afia Begum was born at Dhaka, Bangladesh on 24 December 1969. She obtained her B.Sc.(Honours) in 1990 and M. Sc. in 1991 in Physics from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. She started her carrier as a Scientific Officer (July 1995-September 1997) in Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. She joined the Department of Physics, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, in 1997 as a Lecturer. Dr. Afia received her M.Phil degree in Physics from BUET in 2002. She became Assistant Professor in 2003. Dr. Afia received her Ph.D degree in Physics from BUET in 2009. She became Associate Professor in 2009 and Professor in December 2013. Her present research interest is Medical Physics.
