Degree Earned Students
The postgraduate programmes (M.Sc., M. Phil. & Ph. D.), which are offered to the students with both theoretical courses and research work in various fields of Physics, were started from the year of 1982 in the Department of Physics, BUET. Later, the M.Sc. programme is introduced in 2014. These programmes were mainly devised and initiated, keeping in mind to teach the students fundamental, applied and advanced courses in different areas of physics and to create new avenues to basic and applied as well as advanced research work. Both the syllabus of the courses and the quality of research work were designed to suffice for maintaining international standards. The programmes were also designed, contemplating with a view to open great opportunities for the students, who desire to acquire higher degrees for building up their skillful careers, in the fields of Solid State Physics, Health Physics, Medical Physics, Radiation Protection, and Atmospheric Physics. Certainly, such programmes will help the Physicists create and develop indigenous capability so that they can contribute to the socio-economic development of the country by employing their knowledge and experiences gained from these programmes. A fair number of students (Ph. D. =52, M. Phil. = 256 and M.Sc. = 72) successfully completed these programmes and were awarded their degrees from this Department during the last 41 years and contribute themselves to various sectors of the country.
The Department of Physics celebrated the "Silver Jubilee" on 2-4 December, 2007 on the occasion of the commencement of postgraduate study programmes through a National Conference cum Workshop on Materials Science & Technology with international participation. The aim of the conference was to create an attractive forum for presenting the scientific findings and to promote the exchange of ideas, views and experiences amongst young researchers and professionals, who have been collaborating with the department of Physics from home and abroad in various fields of materials research since the commencement of postgraduate programmes. The international and national conferences provide an opportunity to the young and promising researchers to interact themselves more closely.
